Lake Country is a district municipality located in the province of British Columbia, Canada. It is a small and beautiful community with a population of about 16,000. Located between Vernon and Kelowna, Lake Country was incorporated in 1995. Even since its incorporation, the community has been experiencing massive growth in all sectors. Agriculture is a cultural thing in the area, hence, there are several orchards and vineyards in the community. In 2016, the community received an award for fostering economic growth for small businesses. The community is home to four distinct neighbourhoods which include Okanagan Centre, Oyama, Carr’s Landing, and Winfield. Lake Country is the only municipality in the province of British Columbia to use the ward system.
The community is home to three lakes – Okanagan, Wood, and Kalamalka. If you enjoy water activities, these are all great places to spend quality time with your loved ones. Other cities such as Kelowna and Vernon are just about 30 minutes and 20 minutes away.
School District 23 Central Okanagan is responsible for public education in the community. There are three elementary schools located in the area: Oyama Traditional School, Peter Greer Elementary, and Davidson Road Elementary. These three schools cover Kindergarten to Grade 6. George Elliot Secondary School is also located in the municipality, covering Grades 7 to 12. Okanagan College and UBC Okanagan are just a few minutes’ drive away.
