VERNON, BC

Vernon is a small city located in the north of Okanagan Valley in the southern part of British Columbia. The city was incorporated in 1892 and was named after a member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Forbes George Vernon. With a population of about 44,000, the city is a small and beautiful place to visit or call home. It is the largest city in the North Okanagan Regional District and the residents of the city are called Vernonite.

The city is about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Kamloops, about 30 minutes from Kelowna, and about an hour from Penticton. These are all amazing places to visit in the Okanagan region of British Columbia. Travelling from the city to Vancouver by road would take about 4 hours and 30 minutes.

THINGS TO DO IN VERNON

One of the great places to visit in the city is The Davidson Fruit and Country Village. It’s a great place to visit with your kids and you will a lot of things about fruit picking in the orchard. It’s an experience kids will always find exciting. The Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park is another popular destination for boating, swimming, and fishing. You can either come with your boat or rent one at the park.

The SilverStar Mountain Resort is another great place to visit during winter and summer. If you are visiting in the summer, you will enjoy the hiking trail at the summit and other exciting events. The resort is a great place for skiing during winter. Splashdown Vernon is a waterpark located in the city and is the most popular waterslide in the area. If you love arts and culture, there are other great places to visit in the city to learn about the Okanagan culture and the history of the people.

The Okanagan is known as the home of vineyards and wineries and Vernon has several wineries for visitors and tourists to tour. If you are a wine enthusiast, take your time to visit some of the local wineries in the area and have a taste of some good locally-made wines.

EDUCATION IN VERNON

School District 22 Vernon is responsible for the education of children in the city. Under the district, there are 14 elementary schools and five high schools. Some of the schools include Vernon Secondary School, Clarence Fulton High School, Kalamalka High School, Charles Bloom Secondary, and W.L. Seaton Secondary. There are also private schools for parents who prefer private schools for their kids. Some of the private schools such as the Vernon Christian School.

For tertiary education, Vernon is home to Okanagan College and other community colleges that exist within the city.
