WEST KELOWNA, BC

West Kelowna is a city located in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. Also known as Westside and Westbank, this city has a rural sophistication appeal that makes you think you are living in a village inside a city. The city is a paradise for outdoor activities, and tourists from Canada and other countries visit every year. West Kelowna is bounded by several distinct neighbourhoods including Gellatly, Lakeview Heights, Casa Loma, Rose Valley, Smith Creek, Glenrosa, Shannon Lake, Westbank, and West Kelowna Estates. The population of the city is around 36,000 and it is projected to increase over the years as more entertainment and business opportunities spring up. The city was incorporated as Westside District Municipality in 2007. However, in 2009, the municipality was renamed West Kelowna. It became a city in 2015, and it has become one of the most popular places in the Okanagan Valley.

THINGS TO DO IN WEST KELOWNA

The city has become a place to live, thanks to its cultural heritage in agriculture, lakeshores with beaches, access to urban jobs, and basic amenities needed for a comfortable living. No matter your interests in life, the city has something to thrill you. Okanagan Valley is known for fruit farming, and there are several vineyards and wineries within the city. If you are a wine lover, you can go for a tour by visiting different wineries and having a taste of award-winning wines.

Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre is located in downtown Westbank and offers indoor public swimming and recreational programs. The lakefront walking trail alongside Gellatly Road and Willow Beach along Okanagan Lake are some of the places to visit in the city. Other places include Mount Boucherie Community Centre, Constable Neil Bruce Soccer Fields, Lakeview Height Tennis Courts, Shannon Lake Golf Course, Rose Valley Regional Parks, and a lot of other exciting places to visit in and around the city. For art lovers, A visit to the Westbank Museum would be worth the effort. Neighbouring Westbank First Nation operates an indigenous museum.

West Kelowna’s public education is under the School District 23 Central Okanagan. The only high school in the city is Mount Boucherie Senior Secondary School, serving students from Grades 9 to 12. The two middle schools in the city are Glenrosa Middle School and Constable Neil Bruce Middle School for students in Grades 6 through 8. There are 9 public elementary schools in the municipality including Glenrosa Elementary School, Rose Valley, Hudson Road, Shannon Lake, etc. There are also tertiary institutions in neighbouring Kelowna.
